Description

NGC 3324, also known as the Gabriela Mistral Nebula is a nebula located just beside the Carina Nebula (upper right portion of this image). It is named after the central nebula having a resemblance to a profile view of Nobel Prize winning poet, Gabriela Mistral. Personally what I love most about this area though is lace like appearance to the nebulosity. I used RGB data for the stars for this image, but may eventually get around to making an RGB image with the (limited) data as well.

In my quest to find out more about this nebula, I stumbled upon a news article titled, "UFO Hunter Spots Giant ‘Face Of Alien God’ In The Gabriela Mistral Nebula Near Carina Nebula"

The idea of someone finding what appears to be a face, in a nebula named after someone's face, astounded me so much I lost all train of thought and gave up looking up anything else and decided to just laugh instead. Hopefully others find as much humor in that title as I did.
